White papers give your company a chance to promote data, a process, product, or service as a solution for your client. A case study is constructed with a bit of emotion behind it. The white paper takes a journalistic approach with verified facts, sources and citations. It educates your client with practical, logical content. Here is my white paper process:

Assemble all the stakeholders on a 30-minute call to discuss the project. Before the call ends, we’ll make sure all members agree on our course of action.

Step 2: Outline

I’ll create an outline based on the kick-off call, circulate it, and wait for approval from all parties. I will document the suggested alterations to the outline.

Step 3: Research

I’ll perform detailed research, gather background information on your company, and interview Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).

Step 4: Executive Summary

I will create a one-page summary for the stakeholders to review. This is our second review to make sure the paper is hitting your goals. Once the summary is circulated and we have approval, I’ll create the first draft.

Step 5: Review & Revise

  • Create the first draft
  • Circulate the draft for the first round of feedback
  • Revise the draft according to feedback
  • Circulate draft for the second round of feedback

Step 6: Approval and Delivery of the Final Document

Everyone is happy and we have the final approval; I’ll deliver the final document with all the required adjustments.

Step 7: Follow up

In approximately 45 days, I will contact you to follow up on the project (and to say, “Hey”). However, you do not have to wait for me to follow up. Call me at any time to discuss your results, questions, and final feedback.
