Editing Services
Currently, I am still providing editing and proofreading services. Let’s review a few things, so we’re on the same page.
What Editing Services Do You Provide?
There are many different types of editors; I am a line (style) editor. I go through your material line by line, checking for:
- Run-on sentences, sentence fragments, jargon and clichés
- Fix grammar, punctuation errors, and misspelled words
- Check the structure, clean up wordiness, fix formatting issues
I check your material at the micro-level and correct the vocabulary you use to communicate to your readers. By the time your document gets to me, it should be on its fourth set of edits. Therefore, I am more concerned with structure than errors.
Why Can’t One Editor Do All My Editing?
Because “To err is human.” No matter how much experience an editor has, they are still human, i.e., they make mistakes. You need a system of “checks and balances” to create the most flawless material possible. Every editor is responsible for particular tasks to focus on one thing well.
What Proofreading Services Do You Provide?
The responsibilities of an editor and proofreader are different, and below are the tasks of a proofreader.
I check the document for:
- Typos, grammar, and punctuation errors
- Double words, misspelled words, and formatting issues
When complete, I return the document to the owner. Proofreaders do not suggest alternative synonyms, restructure sentences, or give editorial advice. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.
Why Can’t You Do Editing and Proofreading on the Same Document?
I can answer this by asking you a question. Did you know there is no such thing as multitasking? When you attempt to multitask, your productivity drops significantly, and it’s the same reason authors do not edit their material. You cannot do both with efficiency.
Editing and proofreading are different tasks with different price structures. Contact me via the contact form below for pricing. Yes, I can tell if a document has never been edited, and I cannot take on that project. I will try to recommend an appropriate editor.
I look forward to working with you on your next project.
